FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GENERAL

What is The Metropolitan?
The Metropolitan is a historic landmark located in the west-end of Melbourne’s CBD, having opened its doors as a local hotel and pub all the way back in 1854. Today, it stands as a revitalised three-storey hospitality venue providing Melburnians and tourists alike with a premier social destination where people can eat, drink and gather.

How have you preserved the venue’s heritage?

Working closely with Conservationist Architects, the façade of The Metropolitan has been restored to its 1937 appearance. This included stripping back paint to restore and repair existing brickwork, removing all non-original arched windows, retaining and restoring the classic ‘Metropolitan’ and ‘Metropolitan Hotel’ signage and re-rendering the original dado line that wraps around the entire façade.

Inside, the venue has been completely revitalised using colours and materials that match its historical significance, with three carefully curated spaces for you to enjoy.
